About Block Party NYC

The Idea

Block Party NYC is a program of the New York City Streets Renaissance which is dedicated to helping neighborhoods around NYC come together and enjoy their block free from the usual hazards and distractions of a car-filled street. To make the whole process a little simpler, this website has brought together all the information you need to plan, apply for, and organize a fantastic block party on your street.

A limited number of sponsored block parties will also be awarded mini-grants, and receive the help of an urban planner and the New York City Streets Renaissance staff. This year, we're focusing on blocks and neighbors that are already engaged in working on traffic and livability issues on their street. The 2009 application deadline has passed, but please list your party on the site.

"To celebrate block parties we created this mini film. Last year Streetfilms visited many parties and talked to residents about their streets and life without the automobile."
